about

"It sounds paranormal in a friendly way." - Matthew Lobb

I made all these pieces between May and September 2018 to help with my doctoral studies in the sociology of educational assessment. I've used the same technique for all of them: I took a sample, sometimes of my own pieces, sometimes other people's, sometimes other pieces in this collection, put them through a granular synthesiser and improvised. Some of these are first takes with minimal edits, some of them are a couple of takes mixed together with a few minor edits.

The 'What is now...' title comes from a 2015 book chapter titled 'Discourses as Embodied Genealogies' by Mona Livholts. Other titles are mostly taken from or refer to things I've been reading, especially the work of my favourite sociologist Pierre Bourdieu.
